Breaking news: Southbound Dequindre, at Carpenter, to be closed on and off

By Charles Sercombe
Traffic congestion – and frustration – is about to ramp up in Hamtramck, starting this coming Monday, June 21.
The Michigan Department of Transportation announced that work is about to begin on the southbound I-75 Service Dr. – known as Dequindre here – starting at Carpenter.
The road is being temporarily widened here to handle added traffic congestion when Meade Ave., just north of Carpenter, will be closed over I-75.
That means there will be intermittent street closings at Carpenter and southbound Dequindre that will run until the July 4th holiday weekend.
No parking signs will be going up today, Friday, June 18, on the southbound portion of Dequindre.
