A Warren man has been charged in the shooting death of a 20-year-old Hamtramck man.
Darnell Lavon Hill, who is also 20 years old, faces multiple felony charges, including first-degree homicide.
He was arraigned today, Friday, June 25, in Hamtramck 31st District Court. Hill’s bond was set at $10 million.
The identity of the victim has not been released by the Hamtramck Police Department.
The shooting stems from an incident on June 14 at about 7:45 p.m. According to the police department, a group of about 30 youths were playing basketball in the area of Yemans and Buffalo when a car suddenly drove by and gun shots were fired.
Besides the one victim who died, two others were injured.
Hamtramck detectives have been working hard to track down various tips, but were hampered by some witnesses who refused to cooperate for fear of retaliation.
The shooting was thought to be in retaliation for a previous shooting, but that has not been confirmed.
Hill is also facing the following charges:
o Three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder
o Five counts of Felony Firearm
o One count of Dangerous Weapon, Carrying with Unlawful Intent
Hill’s preliminary examination is July 15 in 31st District Court.
This was the second homicide in Hamtramck since April. In the first incident, a Detroit man was shot to death while on Conant. That incident was related to a previous shooting in Detroit.
Sources say there were other people with Hill who also fired into the crowd. Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at (313) 800-5281.
