Hamtramck once again hosted a sneak preview of Paczki Day.
On Saturday, the annual “Countdown to Paczki Day” took place under a heated tent in the Town Center parking lot on Jos. Campau.
The Misty Blues belted out polkas for the crowd, and when they weren’t taking a spin on the dance floor, the crowd wolfed down free samples of paczki provided by local bakeries.
Congressman Gary Peters stopped by to sample some of the goods and even got to dance with Mayor Karen Majewski, who was decked out in one of her Polish folk dresses.
Another treat was a performance from a trio of guys we didn’t quite catch who they are, but they sang a paczki love song of sorts, called “I gotta poonchkie passion … That’s what I like.”
Imagine those lyrics sang to a Bo Diddley/polka kinda beat. Hey, it worked for us.

Thanks for posting a pic of us singing at the Countdown to Paczki Day festival. It was really a blast being there, especially singing with the Misty Blues. We don’t have an officail name yet, we are contemplating, “Howie & the Poonchkies or The Poonchkie Brothers. The singers names are Howard (lead singer), Marvin, (not pictured) and Gerald (pictured). Thanks again and hope to see you again next year! Howie
