Although the Hamtramck Public Schools did not issue a statement about last week’s death of a 3-year-old girl who was killed by school bus driver, the district’s contractor did issue a statement.
The school district contracts out its bus service to Auxilio Services. On July 16, the 3-year-old was struck by a bus on Burger St. According to the police, the girl had darted out into the street.
The driver told investigators that they did not see the child, and that the driver had slowed down to go over a speed hump.
According to sources, it’s unlikely that the driver will face charges.
The Review reached out to Interim Superintendent James Larson-Shidler and Board of Education President Jihan Aiyash for comment on the incident.
Neither of them responded. Aiyash is seeking re-election in the November election.
But the district posted this statement on its Facebook page that was issued by the contractor:
“An unfortunate tragedy occurred yesterday. Our deepest sympathies go out to all involved. As the investigation allows, we will provide more Information.
“If you have any questions, please contact Rick Seebeck, at (989) 429-0610.”
So far, there has been one response to the post, and it’s from a person who goes by the name “Hjmahh Klaham.”
“’All involved’? You mean the infant your driver killed. It helps to humanize your statements a bit and make it personal when you screw up so bad.”
